AQA has taken a unilateral decision to scrap the A-level in Polish from 2018. Are you going to lobby the AQA to reverse their decision? If yes, are there any other actions which you would undertake in order to preserve the Polish A-level?!

You mention AQA’s decision to remove A-Level Polish. If Britain is to succeed as a country in a global 21st century economy then we need a broad and stretching curriculum in our schools. There can be little doubt that the loss of these qualifications would be detrimental to that.

A Labour government will save the foreign language qualifications that are facing the axe. We need to be able to respond to the growing need for foreign language skills such as Polish, Turkish, Gujarati, Bengali, Punjabi, Modern Hebrew and Portuguese by British companies with ambitions to break into new fast-growing markets.

We want to expand the teaching of modern foreign languages to give children the necessary skills and opportunity at school to meet the challenges of a multilingual society and global economy.

Do you support promoting information about the positive contribution of Polish immigrants to the economy of the UK?

We are proud of Britain’s diversity, where people have come from abroad over many generations to build our businesses, work in our public services and contribute to our nation’s growth.

More needs to be done to protect migrant workers, and we will work for fair rules at work to prevent the exploitation of migrant workers, which undercuts local wages.

In the event of Brexit, would you support granting an unconditional Indefinite Leave To Remain to the EU citizens who have lived and worked in Britain under the freedom of movement rules?

Labour is committed to Britain’s place in Europe and believes Britain is better off remaining in the EU. We are clear on this – our country’s future lies in the EU.
