AQA has taken a unilateral decision to scrap the A-level in Polish from 2018. Are you going to lobby the AQA to reverse their decision? If yes, are there any other actions which you would undertake in order to preserve the Polish A-level?

I agree that giving students the opportunity to study a wide range of languages at A Level is of vital importance. This does not just include Polish of course, but Turkish, Urdu and Bengali for example. I have written to the Department of Education on your behalf regarding this issue to see what can be done to ensure students can still have the opportunity to learn these important languages. I will let you have sight of any response I receive on this issue.

Poland was the most loyal ally of Britain in the Second World War and the Polish army contributed to the defeat of Nazi Germany. Would you therefore challenge some of the British media falsely labelling the German concentration and death camps as being “Polish” e.g. Polish ghetto, death camps of Poland, or, Poland’s Auschwitz?

I most certainly recognise the Polish contribution in the Second World War, most notably in the Battle of Britain. If I were to see an obviously misleading description of a concentration camp as ‘Polish’ that I would definitely write to the editor of that publication to challenge it, however, some use of the ‘Polish’ in this situation may merely to describe the location of the concentration camp in question.

Do you support promoting information about the positive contribution of Polish immigrants to the economy of the UK?

I fully support promoting the positive contribution Polish people make to society and our community, so please do invite me to any community event you know of in Wimbledon.

In the event of Brexit, would you support granting an unconditional Indefinite Leave To Remain to the EU citizens who have lived and worked in Britain under the freedom of movement rules?

While it is too early to comment of what the renegotiated settlement with the EU will look like, let alone a British exit from the EU, I would support EU immigrants who have been working and contributing to the UK being allowed to remain in the country.

Would you consider joining the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Poland and finding out about its activities and initiatives?

I am afraid I am unable to join any All Parliamentary Group on Poland due to my commitments as Chairman of the APPG on Infrastructure. I know my colleagues will keep me informed about their work.
