AQA has taken a unilateral decision to scrap the A-level in Polish from 2018. Are you going to lobby the AQA to reverse their decision? If yes, are there any other actions which you would undertake in order to preserve the Polish A-level?

June 30 – I was not aware that AQA was planning to drop the Polish language ‘A’ level from 2018 and will be happy to write to them to ask for their justification. As a fluent French speaker myself, I know that a country’s culture lives in its language and thus plays an extremely important role in mutual understanding.

July 1st – I have already written to AQA about the Polish ‘A’ Level exam and will let you know what reply I receive.

Poland was the most loyal ally of Britain in the Second World War and the Polish army contributed to the defeat of Nazi Germany. Would you therefore challenge some of the British media falsely labelling the German concentration and death camps as being “Polish” e.g. Polish ghetto, death camps of Poland, or, Poland’s Auschwitz?

The Polish army and the Polish government in exile played a vital role in defeating the Nazis during the Second World War,  and I know that the Polish people themselves suffered horribly under Nazi occupation.  About one sixth of the total Polish population lost their lives under the Nazi terror.  There is no excuse for the media to give the impression that any of this was the doing of the Polish people and whenever I am made aware of such misinformation I will endeavor to correct these mistakes.

Do you support promoting information about the positive contribution of Polish immigrants to the economy of the UK?

I am certainly in favour of promoting information about the contribution of Polish immigrants to the UK economy.  I have enormous warmth and respect for the Polish people, and for Polish immigrants in the UK who have become an integral part of the working life of Leeds and so many other cities.  As far as I know, they are for the most part very well received.

In the event of Brexit, would you support granting an unconditional Indefinite Leave To Remain to the EU citizens who have lived and worked in Britain under the freedom of movement rules?

As far the Britain leaving the EU is concerned, I am convinced that this will never happen but if it did I would be extremely shocked and appalled. In the meantime must work on the assumption that it will not occur and that the referendum will be won convincingly by the pro-EU campaign.

Would you consider joining the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Poland and finding out about its activities and initiatives?

I am happy to join the All Party Parliamentary Group on Poland and will endeavour to keep up to date on matters relating to Poland and to Polish immigrants in the UK.

Questions were sent out after the elections.
