AQA has taken a unilateral decision to scrap the A-level in Polish from 2018. Are you going to lobby the AQA to reverse their decision? If yes, are there any other actions which you would undertake in order to preserve the Polish A-level?

A Level in Polish – I wasn’t aware of the AQA decisions on this and would be interested in hearing constituents’ views on this.

Poland was the most loyal ally of Britain in the Second World War and the Polish army contributed to the defeat of Nazi Germany. Would you therefore challenge some of the British media falsely labelling the German concentration and death camps as being “Polish” e.g. Polish ghetto, death camps of Poland, or, Poland’s Auschwitz?

This is slightly incorrect. Britain entered World War 2 because together with France, had signed an agreement to declare war on Germany, if she invaded Poland (which she did). Poland was overrun and was not therefore an ally as a functioning government, but it is absolutely true that the Polish agreement in exile in London received help and hospitality from Britain, and Polish servicemen gave magnificent assistance, especially in the RAF and the assault on Monte Cassino.

It is correct that Auschwitz and other camps are in Poland, and also that these were entirely the creation of the occupying German forces.

Do you support promoting information about the positive contribution of Polish immigrants to the economy of the UK?

es, but, there is also another side. I do not support any EU citizen receiving child benefit for children not residing here, or at rates higher than children would usually receive.

In the event of Brexit, would you support granting an unconditional Indefinite Leave To Remain to the EU citizens who have lived and worked in Britain under the freedom of movement rules?

This is an entirely hypothetical question about a situation I do not expect to arise: but if it did, the answer is yes.

Would you consider joining the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Poland and finding out about its activities and initiatives?

No (I am a member/chair of too many APPGs already) but I am closely in touch with my colleague Daniel Kawczynski MP who is the Prime Minister’s Envoy on Polish and Eastern European Diaspora in the UK.

Questions were sent out after the elections.
